All - Matt sent out an email re: Finovate, and I would highly recommend this event. I was there last fall in NY, and well worth it. A bit more investment, but well worth the time and money, lots of good conversations, interesting companies, people and ideas. I'm planning to be there if I can be town.
We're organizing an informal drink for participants of either BCBSF2 or Finovate Startup 09, both or none More info at http://post-bcbsf2-pre-finovate09-drink.eventbrite.com/
Again, we are a couple of people from out-of-town and we are thinking of getting together for brunch on Sunday morning. We don't know the exact time yet, nor the place. Please contribute to ideas, even if you're not planning to come. We may do a count on some other tools to refine the reservation questions
we're a couple of out of town planning to meet around Union Square where we stay. We're looking for recommendations about the place. We know the time 8:00pm. Please provide your own suggestion, we're looking for local advice, that does not mean you plan to come.
Attached is the press release that you can freely send around and below our blurb to put in a email if necessary. See you on Apr 25. ------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Innovators, It's been a year since we had the first BarCampBankSF at the UC Berkeley campus -- and given the current state of the economy, the collapse of the stock markets, the credit crunch hitting the global markets and the issuing severe slowdown ... An Eventbrite's site has been setup to let everyone register and pay the proposed fee ($26). The url is http://bcbsf2.eventbrite.com/ Please, also add your name to http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF2 and connect with other participants through this CrowdVine's group. See you there, Frederic
All, I've created a generic BarCampBank Crowdvine social network if we want to exchange messages not necessarily linked to the local contexts. http://barcampbank.crowdvine.com This came to me after seeing Ginny subscribe to this group and after I posted the link on CIFT. I wondered if we could use a central place for Crowdvine users.
Just discovered the "Center for Innovative Financial Technology, UC Berkeley" http://cift.haas.berkeley.edu/index.html I had known before, I would have tried to drag some of them to BarCampBankSF. I think we could try to establish links for BarCampBankSF2 http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF2 They also have a Crowdvine site http://cift.crowdvine.com/
All, Robbie Wright made the suggestion that it would make sense to have a LinkedIn Group for BarCampBank. Thanks to him for the impulse. Group has just been approved, and application can be done via: http://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/82988/53DB6748EC70 (Please let me know if you have any problems with the link. Allow for a couple of days for moderation of an application after it has been done, it seems LinkedIn does not warn of pending applications).... [read more]
All, The idea of organizing a second BarCamBank San Francisco is now in the air. The wiki page to start brainstorming and showing your interest is http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF2 The BCBSF Google group http://groups.google.com/group/barcampbank-sf can also be used to exchange on the idea. Cheers,
Ani,
Can you send me your email address at fbaud at p2pventure dot org?
Thx,
As mentioned during the wrap-up, it would be great to have a couple of meeting minutes, photos, videos, anything that would allow people to benefit from the fabulous talks that took place during BCBSF. Wherever you post this information, please use http://barcamp.org/BarCampBankSF as the main entry point for all this by inserting links in the wiki page. People who animated sessions or participated to one (that means everyone), please try to put a... [read more]
Thanks Frederic, I appreciate it. First time I've done it and was a just a tad nervous with so many bright minds at the table. I was thrilled to just be part and am excited to see what comes next. Thanks to you as well for being a great open space facilitator. Looking forward to the next one.
Ryan, let me re-iterate my congratulations for animating the PFM session. You did an awesome job.
We should get the ball rolling and see how it goes. What would be your prefered tool for interaction?
If we want to use a Google group, there are two possibilities
- discuss on http://groups.google.com/group/p2pven... if we want to discuss p2p venture at a higher level
- discuss on http://groups.google.com/group/fundcamp if we want to discuss the nuts and blots of organizing a fundcamp
I'll get back to both of you after I get home and recover from jet-lag
Great catching up with familiar thinkers from BCB-Seattle, local evangelist, and new faces with fresh ideas. Looking forward to continue the discussion on the social finance, micro-credit movement.
Fredrick/ Mark M, like to collaborate on bringing a P2P Fund Camp Silicon Valley as well. I have access to a relevant location - A prominent incubator PlugandPlayTechCenter where they are 100+ resident entrepreneurs - and visiting Angel/VC's. My company is based there, and they have a nice space.
Great Event - Thanks for Organizing!
Good luck with your project.
Hi Everyone, For those interested in a second day of BCBSF, let's meet at 1030am at Cafe Durant in Berkeley. Please see the link below for details. There is rooftop seating, which should be nice (weather permitting). http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-durant-berkeley
Hi Mark, Thanks for the nice event. It was my first barcamp ever. wish i can meet up with some of folks again during my stay in Bay area.
Hi Mark, It was great to meet you yesterday - I appreciated all of the great conversations.
Hey Tony, It was great to meet you yesterday!
When and where can we continue the conversation, Erin? Coffee's on me.
Would like to have a conversation with you re alternative payments and transaction processing some time, Alicia.
Delightful to meet you yesterday, Felipe. Coffee is on me in Mountain View, any time you would like to continue our conversation. Many interesting threads to pick up!
THANK YOU! Fabulous event, Matt. Really interesting people, sessions, and conversations. I wish we could have recorded each of the sessions so I could go back and sit in on the other topics via podcast or something--it was agonizing having to choose between such interesting break-outs!
Frederic, I love what you are doing with P2PVenture.org and FundCamp. I am looking forward to helping you launch FundCamp Silicon Valley, and collaborating on many things.
Please upload any and all photos that you shot at BCBSF (or on the way to, or home from) to Flickr. Then add them to the BCBSF Flickr group at this url: http://www.flickr.com/groups/barcampbanksf/ You all look mahvelous!
Chris, I most lamentably didn't get a chance to speak with you at BCBSF, and I was torn right down the middle about attending the mobile finance session or the P2P Venture session, and went with the latter by a hair because it is our core biz. But you and I HAVE to talk. There are so many alignments between what you're doing and what we're about. When's good for coffee?
I may be a little bit late for Matt's purposes on this, but Matt was tossing some slogan ideas for the BarCampBank my way, and I thought a good one would be "building bridges in the world of financial innovation". He suggested I throw this one out to the community for feedback. What does everyone else think?
We are a couple of barcampbankers planning to continue discussing after BCBSF's first day around a drink and having dinner together. We would probably do that in Berkeley's area. That would be an opportunity to socialize in a different settings, although I think there would be a lot of discussions around banking and finance ;-) Maybe we could start quantifying the interest and see the options for holding this mid-event.
